LINCOLN -- Nebraska Head Coach Mark Manning announced on Thursday that Cale Davidson has signed with the University of Nebraska.

Davidson, a native of Wichita, Kan., who projects at 285 pounds, is a transfer from the University of Wyoming, and will have two years of eligibility remaining following the 2019-20 campaign.

Davidson competed in four matches as a sophomore for the Cowboys this season. He went 4-0 and won the 197-pound title in the Elite bracket at the 2019 Cowboy Open.

During the 2018-19 season, Davidson (197) went 22-15 overall competing as a redshirt freshman. He compiled a 10-8 mark in dual competition, including wins over then-#16 Malik McDonald of North Carolina State (an 8-6 decision) and then-#20 Cordell Eaton of North Dakota State (a 6-3 decision). Davidson went 4-1 at the 2018 Reno Tournament of Champions, taking home a second-place finish in the 197-pound bracket. Davidson also competed at the Journeymen Classic, finishing in fourth place, and earned a first-place finish at the 2018 Cowboy Open.

Davidson's 2018-19 success came on the heels of a tremendously successful redshirt season. He went 13-1 overall with five pins, competing primarily in open tournaments. Davidson won 197-pound bracket titles at the UNK Open (competing in the Elite division) and the 2017 Cowboy Open (competing in the Amateur bracket).

Davidson competed for Goddard High School (Kansas) as a prep. Following a third-place finish at 182 pounds as a sophomore, Davidson was the 182-pound Class 5A state champion and led his team to a state title as a junior. Davidson moved up a weight class to 195 pounds his senior year and repeated as a state champion as Goddard took home another Kansas Class 5A team title. Davidson was also a USAW Jr. National Folkstyle All-American and 182-pound Midwest National champion during his prep years.
