Huskers Unable to Knock Off No. 2 Washington

Cathedral City, Calif. -- Nebraska held No. 2 Washington to just two runs through the first five innings, but a big sixth inning for UW gave the Huskies a 10-2 victory over the Huskers on Saturday night at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. 

Rylie Unzicker went 2-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and a walk. Tristen Edwards and Cam Ybarra also had one double on the night. In the circle, Olivia Ferrell (2-3) started and pitched 5.1 innings.She gave up four runs -  three earned - on six hits and had two strikeouts. Lindsey Walljasper pitched 0.1 inning of relief. 

Pat Moore improved to 5-0 on the season. She pitched 1.1 inning of relief and didn't allow a hit. 

The Huskers didn't waste any time against Washington. Unzicker and Ybarra both doubled in the first inning to give NU a quick 1-0 lead.

The Huskies tied it up in the fourth scoring one run off a walk, a sac bunt and a single. 

In the fifth, Nebraska went back on top. Back-to-back doubles from Edwards and Unzicker plated another run for the Huskers and knocked All-American pitcher Gabbie Plain out of the game. In the bottom of the inning, UW evened the game again, taking advantage of a Husker error and scoring one unearned run off three hits. 

In the sixth, Washington took control and scored eight runs on six hits to go up 10-2 and end the game due to the mercy rule. 

Nebraska concludes the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Sunday when the team takes on No. 7/9 Florida. First pitch is set for 10:30 CT, a half hour earlier than its original time of 11 a.m. CT.
