Nebraska Knocks Off No. 21/23 Mizzou, 10-2

Columbia, Mo. --- After dropping the first two games of the weekend, the Nebraska softball team responded in a big way on Sunday morning, knocking off No. 21/23 Missouri in a 10-2 victory. The Huskers picked up the win in a dramatic fashion, finishing the Tigers in just five innings due to the mercy rule. The victory marks NU's first win of the season over a ranked foe.

Lindsey Walljasper pitched 4.0 innings and improved to 4-3 on the season. Walljasper allowed just two runs on three hits and had six strikeouts. At the plate, Walljasper had two hits with three RBIs and a homer. She also drew two walks to reach base four times - each time she went to bat. Ferrell pitched 1.0 inning of relief and didn't allow a hit. She recorded one strikeout.

As a team, the Husker offense was explosive throughout the game, recording 12 hits and scoring in all but one inning. NU had seven extra-base hits. Ferrell went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI. The three hits were a career high. She also drew a walk to reach base all four times she appeared. Tristen Edwards and Rylie Unzicker each had two hits and two runs. Edwards had a double and a homer, while Unzicker had two doubles.

Mizzou's Jordan Weber received her first loss of the season (4-1). She pitched 2.0 innings and gave up three runs on three hits.

Edwards got the Huskers started with a leadoff home run in the first to give NU a 1-0 lead. Ferrell hit a one-out double to get another runner in scoring position. Walljasper drew a walk to put another runner on and a deep fly ball allowed Ferrell to tag and reach third.

The Huskers took a 4-0 lead in the top of the third after taking advantage of a rocky Mizzou defense. Ferrell drew a walk and Bree Boruff pinch ran for her. Walljasper was also walked and Carson Fischer pinch ran for her. Both runners advanced on a passed ball to get in scoring position. Ybarra hit a sac fly that scored Boruff. Owen reached on a fielder's choice and Fisher reached third on a Tiger error. Another sac fly from Ally Riley plated Fischer. Then Glatter doubled to bring in Owen.

The Tigers cut the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the inning after a two-run homer.

Nebraska didn't let up in the fourth and added two runs. Unzicker doubled and Ferrell singled to put two runners on with one out. Back-to-back singles from Walljasper and Owen scored two.

In the fifth, the Big Red plated four more - all with two outs. Edwards and Unzicker doubled to score one. Ferrell singled to score another and Walljasper hit a two-run homer. In the bottom of the inning, Mizzou loaded the bases with no outs after two walks and a single, but the NU defense held strong. The Huskers got the force out at home and another out after a pop up. Ferrell ended the game with a strikeout.

The Huskers play Wichita State immediately following this game.
