Tristen Edwards hit a walk-off home run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift her team to a 2-1 victory over a team captained by Billie Andrews in the fourth intrasquad scrimmage for the Nebraska softball team on Friday.
The game had been tied 1-1 since the top of the third before Edwards launched a 1-1 pitch into the trees beyond the center field fence to lift her team to the victory. Edwards went 2-for-3 with a double, a homer, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored in the scrimmage. Kaylin Kinney also had a pair of hits finishing 2-for-2 with a hit-by-pitch and an RBI.
In the circle, Olivia Ferrell started and pitched the first five innings for Team Edwards ad allowed only one run on two hits, striking out five and working around four walks. Kinney pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh innings to earn the win, allowing just one white and striking out two.
Cam Ybarra had two of the three hits for Team Billie Andrews, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI. Anni Raley had the other hit for Team Billie Andrews. In the circle, Courtney Wallace and Karlee Seevers split the innings. Wallace started and pitched the first three innings and the fifth inning, allowing just one run on three hits 4.0 total innings. Seevers came on in relief and pitched the fourth, sixth and seventh innings. She took the loss despite allowing only one run on three hits in 2.1 innings.
Team Edwards took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Edwards led off with a double and scored on a two-out RBI single from Kinney.
Team Billie Andrews used a pair of walks to tie the game in the top of the third. A leadoff walk to Abbey Newlun came around to score on a two-out, RBI single from Ybarra.
Team Edwards had a chance to regain the lead in the bottom of the fifth after MJ Green doubled with one out and Edwards followed with a walk, but the pair were eventually stranded in scoring position.
Team Edwards had another scoring chance in the bottom of sixth. Kinney was hit by a pitch to begin the inning and Ally Riley singled to center before Abbie Squier lined into a double play. A two-out walk to Sydney Gray put runners back on first and second, but Seevers escaped the jam after Camyl Armendariz lined out to the warning track in center.
The bottom of the seventh inning began with a strikeout before Edwards hit her walk-off home run.
The Huskers will scrimmage again on Saturday in their next-to-last scrimmage of the fall season.
