Team Billie Andrews Wins Final Scrimmage

Team Billie Andrews defeated Team Tristen Edwards, 10-5, in the sixth and final scrimmage of the fall for the Nebraska softball team on Sunday at Bowlin Stadium.

The captain led her team offensively, as Billie Andrews went 5-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Cam Ybarra was 4-for-4 with a double, a walk, a run scored and three RBIs. Anni Raley finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Abbey Newlun went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

In the circle, Courtney Wallace – who scored a pair of runs offensively – and Karlee Seevers split the innings. Wallace threw the first two innings and the final two frames, whiles Seevers tossed innings three and four. Wallace allowed five runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in 5.0 innings, while Seevers pitched two scoreless, hitless innings.

For Team Edwards, Kaylin Kinney was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs as the only player with multiple hits or multiple RBIs. Caitlynn Neal, Ally Riley and MJ Green each had one RBI for Team Edwards. Kinney tossed 5.0 innings and was charged with all of the runs, and she recorded six strikeouts. Ferrell pitched the final two innings and allowed two hits but did not give up a run.

Team Billie Andrews took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Billie Andrews led off with a double and scored on a one-out RBI single from Ybarra.

Team Edwards answered with two runs in the bottom of the first. Edwards got things started with a one-out single before Ferrell walked. Kinney and Riley then produced back-to-back RBI singles to give their team a 2-1 lead.

Team Billie Andrews tied the game with a run in the top of the second. Back-to-back one-out infield singles from Raley and Newlun set the stage for Billie Andrews' two-out RBI single.

Team Billie Andrews then took advantage of some free passes to score six times in the top of the third. Two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases with one out before Raley blasted a two-run single off the top of the fence in right field. Another walk re-loaded the bases and set up Team Edwards to record a force out at home. But Billie Andrews produced a two-out RBI single for the second straight inning and Rylie Unzicker drew a bases loaded walk to make it a 6-2 game. Ybarra then reached on a two-run infield single when Team Edwards had a communication error on a pop up that fell for a hit and gave Team Edwards an 8-2 lead.

Team Billie Andrews added two more runs in the top of the fourth. Wallace began the inning with a single before an error put runners on first and second. Newlun then drove in both runners with a one-out RBI double to the gap in right center to push the lead to 10-2.

Team Edwards got one run back in the bottom of the fifth. Neal began the inning with a walk and scored on a two-out RBI double from Kinney.

After Team Billie Andrews left the bases loaded in the top of the sixth, Abbie Squier and Sydney Gray began the bottom of the inning with back-to-back singles for Team Edwards. Squier came home on an RBI ground out from Green and Gray scored on a two-out RBI single from Neal that cut the lead to 10-5. But that was as close as Team Edwards would get, as Wallace pitched a scoreless seventh inning to seal the win.
