The Nebraska women's basketball team honored career block leader Kate Cain and career three-point percentage leader Taylor Kissinger on Saturday at Pinnacle Bank Arena in place of the game against Michigan State that was called off approximately an hour before scheduled tip-off.
The game was not played based on the advice from institutional medical staffs.
Cain, who is the No. 2 active shot blocker in NCAA Division I and the No. 6 shot blocker in Big Ten history, capped Nebraska's Senior Day ceremony that occurred in place of the scheduled tip-off, rather than following the game against the Spartans as originally planned.
Cain, who is also just the 10th Husker in history to achieve the combined career milestones of 1,000 points and 750 rebounds, owns 344 career blocks. She also owns the top three shot-blocking seasons in school history.
Cain was honored alongside Taylor Kissinger, who was forced to end her career prematurely because of injuries prior to the start of this season. Student managers Christian Eisenhauer and Trevor Bogle and graduate manager Kristina Bayton were also honored.
"Obviously, we are disappointed that we were not able to play our final home game of the season at Pinnacle Bank Arena today," Nebraska Coach Amy Williams said. "All of our players and coaches were excited to play and hopefully send Kate Cain off with one more home win on Senior Day. While we are extremely disappointed that we were not able to compete today, our post-game ceremony honoring Kate and Taylor Kissinger was still a fitting tribute to their careers and their time here as Huskers. We were glad we were able to recognize their contributions to our program.
"We will move forward and hopefully have a chance to reschedule our game with Michigan State, but if not, we will get ready for our final regular-season game at Iowa on Saturday."
Nebraska's game time with the Hawkeyes in Iowa City is set for 7 p.m. (CT) with a live video stream provided to subscribers of BTN Plus.
