Verstraete Named To All-Freshman Team

Lincoln - Redshirt Freshman Kayla Verstraete was named to the National Ten Pin Coaches Association (NTCA) All-Freshman Team.

"Congratulations to Kayla for being named to the All-Freshman team for the 2020-21 season," Head Coach Paul Klempa said. "Kayla has worked very hard on her game, both during her redshirt year last season and throughout this season. She has been anxious to start competing for her team and she has made the most of it so far. She has the drive and passion to be a superstar in NCAA Bowling and she is well on her way. We all celebrate this accomplishment with Kayla and look forward to her bright future."

The All-Freshman Team is an honor new to this year, honoring the top-21 freshman. For a bowler to qualify for the team, the NTCA identifies they must have competed in at least half of the team's frames.

Verstraete made her first career appearance for the Huskers at the Prairie View Invitational where she bowled her way to a ninth-place finish, averaging a 199.00. She continued to build off her success, finishing third at the Big Red Invitational, where she bowled a season-high 233.50, and second at the Music City Classic. Both performances earned her spots on the All-Tournament Teams.

Earlier this season, Verstraete was named to the Central All-Region Second Team. She bowled an average of 213.00 on the season, placing her tied for seventh in Husker history for a single season alongside Lindsay (Baker) Boomershine. Verstraete competed in 30 games this season and had a total pinfall of 6,390.
