Lincoln -- The Nebraska bowling team will be tested in its bid to repeat as national champions, as the Huskers unveiled their 2021-22 schedule on Tuesday.
The nine-tournament regular-season schedule begins on Friday, Oct. 22, as the Huskers will travel to the McKendree Bearcat Open. It will be one of three fall tournaments for the Huskers, as NU will also compete at the Track Kat Klash (Nov. 5-7) and the SFA Jacks Invite (Nov. 12-24).
"The team is excited to get back to a full schedule of competition in 2021-22 after the abbreviated regular season last year," Head Coach Paul Klempa said. "Everyone will return from our National Championship team, and this schedule is loaded with quality competition from start to finish. This schedule will help prepare the team as they make a run at back-to-back championships."
The second half of the season begins in Las Vegas for the Stromin' Blue and Gold Classic (Jan. 8-10) and is highlighted by the Big Red Invitational in Lincoln (Feb. 25-27). Other winter tournaments include the Prairie View A&M Invite (Jan. 28-30), Columbia 300 Saints (Feb. 4-6), the Mid-Winter Invitational (Feb. 18-20) and the Music City Classic (March 18-20).
Postseason play begins on April 8-9 with NCAA Regionals on campus sites before the 2022 NCAA Championship takes place in Columbus, Ohio, on April 15-16, as the Huskers contend for their seventh NCAA title since 2004.
Last year, the Huskers competed in just five regular-season tournaments – all in the second semester – because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Huskers return their entire lineup from last season's national championship team, including NTCA Bowler of the Year Crystal Elliott and All-Americans Kayla Verstraete and Cassidy Ray.
