Lincoln – Fans can get their first look at the 2021-22 Huskers with the second-ever Opening Night with Husker Hoops. Fans can now register for free 100 Level tickets for the Opening Night event on Oct. 1 by visiting Huskers.com/Tickets, with a limit of four general admission tickets per person. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening one hour prior.
Opening Night features a 15-minute scrimmage by the Husker men's team, introductions of the Husker men's and women's teams, remarks from both coaches, fan events as well as a special post-scrimmage performance by platinum-selling recording artist G Herbo.
The event will mark the first time that fans have been able to watch Husker basketball in person since the end of the 2019-20 season.
Fred Hoiberg, who begins his third season in charge of the Husker program, returns seven letterwinners from last season, including Trey McGowens (10.7 ppg, 3.9 rpg), Lat Mayen (8.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg) and Derrick Walker (5.9 ppg, 4.7 rpg). The trio comprises three of the Huskers' top six scorers and three of four rebounders. NU also welcomes back super senior Kobe Webster, who averaged 8.1 ppg in 2020-21.
NU also brings one of the nation's top recruiting classes, highlighted by five-star recruit Bryce McGowens and top-100 recruit Wilhelm Breidenbach. NU also adds a trio of Division I transfers, including Arizona State Alonzo Verge Jr., who averaged 14.0 points per game in 2020-21, as well as former top-100 recruits C.J. Wilcher (Xavier) and Keon Edwards (DePaul).
Opening Night highlights a busy homecoming weekend on campus, as the Husker football will host Northwestern on Saturday, while the Husker Volleyball team has a pair of matches that weekend.
