Lincoln – Defending national champion Nebraska will open the season atop the national poll, as the National Ten Pin Coaches Association (NTCA) released its preseason poll Friday morning.
The Huskers received 34 of the 50 first-place votes and totaled 1,817 points, well ahead of No. 2 McKendree's total of 1,694 points. Arkansas State, Vanderbilt and North Carolina A&T rounded out the top five. In all, seven programs received at least one first place vote by the coaches around the nation.
The Huskers return their entire lineup from last year's NCAA Championship team for Head Coach Paul Klempa, including National Player of the Year Crystal Elliott, two-time All-American Cassidy Ray and All-American Kayla Verstraete. Klempa was the 2021 National Coach of the Year, as he guided the Huskers to an NCAA title in his first postseason appearance.
The Huskers open the 2021-22 season next weekend, as they travel to the McKendree Bearcat Open. Competition runs from Oct. 22 to Oct. 24.
