Huskers Cruise By Cyclones

Nebraska captured 12 of 16 event titles, including a diving sweep by Sara Troyer that included a facility-record performance to lead the Huskers to a 186-114 dual win over Iowa State on Saturday at Beyer Pool in Ames.

With the victory, Nebraska improved to 3-1 on the season with its seventh consecutive win in the series with Iowa State, while the Cyclones slipped to 3-1 on the year.

Troyer, a senior from Goshen, Ind., broke a 13-year-old Beyer Pool record with her 343.20 on her way to a victory in the three-meter dive. Troyer's score, which was her second-best performance this season, eclipsed the previous Beyer Pool mark of 340.23 set by ISU's Kendra Melnychuk in 2008. Troyer added a victory in the one-meter dive with a score of 280.40, while Reagan Hinze took second with a career-best 275.35, and Hallie Roman finished fourth at 258.85. Roman added a third-place finish on the three-meter board (249.50), while Hinze took fifth (240.20) to complete a strong showing on the boards for the Big Red.

Troyer was far from the only Husker to come up with a pair of individual wins on Saturday. All-American Autumn Haebig led big Nebraska wins in both the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle. Madesyn Ronquillio added a second-place swim in the 100 back, while Lexi Kucera took second and Beatriz Padron finished fourth in the 100 free.

Ilaria Murzilli also led a pair of Husker top-two sweeps in the distance freestyle events. The freshman from Italy cruised to first in the 500 free ahead of teammate Molly Rosenthal in second, after grinding her way to victory in the 1,000 free ahead of teammate Katelyn Kilpatrick.

Ella Stein also provided big points for the Big Red by sweeping the breaststroke events. The sophomore from Hudson, Wis., opened with a win in the 100 breast while teammate Maia Hall added a fourth-place showing. Stein added a win in the 200 breast while Hall took third. Stein also joined Haebig in helping the Huskers close the meet with a victory in the 400 free relay for their third wins of the day.

Milica Opacic also teamed with Haebig and Stein for the win in the 400 free relay, while adding an individual victory in the 100 butterfly. The freshman from Novi Sad, Serbia added a runner-up finish in the 200 free, while joining Haebig and Stein for another runner-up finish to kick off the meet in the 200 medley relay.

Other Nebraska individual event winners included Shannon Stott, who led a top-three sweep in the 200 butterfly. Sarah Barton took second, while Berkeley Livingston added a third-place performance. Ronquillio added a victory in the 200 backstroke, while Barton added her second runner-up finish of the day in the event.

Kucera also teamed for Nebraska's win in the 400 free relay, while adding her runner-up performance in the 100 free and fourth-place finish behind Opacic (2nd) and Padron (3rd) in the 200 free.

The Huskers return to home action Friday, Nov. 5, when they play host to Kansas at the Devaney Center Natatorium. The meet is set to begin at 4 p.m.
