Huskers Split Doubleheader with Missouri

The Nebraska softball team split a doubleheader Sunday afternoon against Missouri at Bowlin Stadium. The Huskers won the first game 6-1, before falling to the Tigers 3-0 in the second game. 

The Huskers combined for 16 hits on the day including a pair of doubles from junior Mya Felder and senior Peyton Galtter and a solo homerun from senior Courtney Wallace. 

In the first game, Nebraska was the first to score after Wallace hit a solo home run over the left field fence. The Huskers capitalized on the lead scoring five in the third inning. After junior Brooke Andrews was walked, Felder hit a double to left center. A single to right field from senior Cam Ybarra scored Brooke Andrews. Glatter was walked, but two runs were brought in after an error by Missouri's left fielder. Senior Olivia Ferrell added a single, scoring two more runs. The Huskers went up 6-0 at the end of the third inning.

Missouri was able to get on the board after a double from senior Emma Raabe brought in senior Kendyll Bailey, who also got on base after hitting a double to center field. The late rally was not enough, however, for the Tigers. 

Ferrell and sophomore Kaylin Kinney both pitched for the Huskers. Ferrell pitched the first six innings recording two strikeouts and holding Missouri to only three hits. Kinney pitched in the seventh inning and recorded one strikeout. 

In the circle for Missouri were juniors Jordan Weber and Megan Schumacher. Weber pitched the first three innings allowing six hits and six runs. Schumacher pitched the last four innings giving up five hits. 

In the second game, the Huskers recorded five hits, despite falling to the Tigers, 3-0. 

Missouri's first run came in the fourth inning after a pair of singles from junior Megan Moll and sophomore Chantince Phillips put the Tigers in scoring position. A hard hit ball to second from senior Brooke Wilmes brought in Moll, putting the Tigers on the board.

The second and third runs of the game came in the top of the seventh inning. A lead off walk and a single from Wilmes put the Tigers in scoring position. A single to center field from freshman Kara Daly brought in a run. After reaching on a fielder's choice, sophomore Alex Honnold scored after stealing second, and advancing on a throwing error.

Senior Anni Raley led the Huskers during game two recording two hits, followed by Billie Andrews, Brooke Andrews and Abbie Squier all recording one hit as well. 

Wallace was the starting pitcher for NU and recorded six strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Sophomore Caitlynn Neal pitched in the seventh inning and only allowed one hit. 
 
Nebraska was able to hold Missouri to only 11 hits total on the day. 
 
The Huskers are back in action Saturday, Oct. 16 at Bowlin Stadium against South Dakota at 10 a.m. for Nebraska's annual Breast Cancer Awareness game. Attendance for the game is free.
