Huskers Take Track Kat Klash Title

Houston, Texas- The top-ranked Nebraska bowling team posted its second tournament win of the season, taking first at the Track Kat Klash Sunday afternoon. The Huskers completed an 11-2 weekend with a six-game win over North Carolina A&T and a seven-game win in the championship over Sam Houston. The Huskers finished the weekend with a total pinfall of 13,900.

"Another solid weekend for the team," Head Coach Paul Klempa said. "Their work ethic is so good in preparation and it pays dividends in these tight, highly contested matches for tournament titles. I could not be prouder of how well they represent themselves and Nebraska while competing. They play like champions and act like champions. They continue to impress us each week."

NU started Sunday with a match against North Carolina A&T. The Huskers won the first two matches by scores of 235-215 and 233-214. The Aggies bounced back and won the next two matches 188-246 and 221-247 to even the contest.  Nebraska took back control in game five with a 248-189 win and edged the Aggies by a score of 195-193 to win 4-2 and earn a berth into the championship match against Sam Houston.

In the championship, the Huskers and Bearkats split the first two games, with Sam Houston winning 244-231 in the opener before Nebraska posted a 268-183 victory. The Bearkats eventually took a 3-2 lead, winning the third (193-207) and fifth games (156-201), while Nebraska won the fourth game by a score of 246-174. The Huskers evened the match with a win in the sixth game (238-176) and completed the comeback by rolling six consecutive strikes a 237-207 in the decisive seventh game

Junior Crystal Elliott finished second in Individual Standings and snagged a spot on the All-Tournament team with a 226 average.

The Huskers will return to the lanes next Friday through Sunday at the SFA Ladyjacks Hammer Classic in Kenosha, Wis.
