Talley, Johansson Earn B1G Field Athlete of the Week Honors

Nebraska track and field's Alex Talley and Axelina Johansson were named Big Ten Men's Field Athlete of the Week and Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.

"Alex and Axelina really had a tremendous start to their Husker careers with their strong performances last weekend," said associate head coach Justin St. Clair. "It was great to see them come right out of the gate and start the season by setting a high standard and getting the recognition from the conference is a great honor and accomplishment. We look forward to building off this momentum as we continue into our indoor season."

Talley won two titles on Saturday at the K-State Winter Invitational. The West Fargo, N.D., native won the weight throw with a school record of 73-3 1/2 (22.34m). Talley captured the shot put title with a mark of 65-7 (19.99m), which ranks fourth all-time in school history. Talley currently ranks first nationally in the shot put and second in the weight throw.

Johansson won the shot put with a launch of 56-6 1/2 (17.23m). Johansson's mark sits fourth all-time in school history and currently ranks first in the country.

The Huskers return to action when Nebraska hosts the Graduate Classic on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 14-15 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track.
