Nebraska swim and dive capped off the four-day U.S. Open Championships on Saturday, where freshman Maia Hall and senior Shannon Stott led the Huskers with each recording a top-ten finish on the day.
"It was a great feeling finishing up the way we did the final session. They brought their Husker pride and finished on a high note. Everyone improved on their morning swims and we got personal best performances from Autumn (Haebig) in the 100 free and Shannon (Stott) in the 200 fly," Nebraska head coach Pablo Morales said.
Hall (Whitby, England) stepped up to swim a 2:39.31 in the 200m breaststroke prelims to earn the first A-final qualification for the Big Red. The freshman cut off almost a second in the finals to finish eighth overall at 2:38.43. Stott (St. Albans, Great Britain) made her U.S. Opens debut by earning a spot in the B-finals for the 200m butterfly, where she finished as runner-up and tenth overall with a 2:15.29.
Sophomore Ella Stein and freshman JoJo Randby joined Hall in the 200m breaststroke finals, where Stein (Hudson, Wis.) notched a 14th-place finish overall (2:39.89) and Randby finished 18th with a 2:42.11 to round out the solid breaststroke group.
Distance freestyler Audrey Coffey represented the Big Red in the 1,500m freestyle, where she swam the event in 17:25.67 to finish 12th.
Senior Madesyn Ronquillio secured 19th place in the 200m backstroke (2:21.63) after swimming in the C-final, while fellow senior Autumn Haebig swam in the finals for her third consecutive night. Haebig (Grafton, Wis.) claimed 17th in the 100m freestyle in her C-final appearance tonight after swimming to a top-ten finish in the 200m freestyle on Friday night.
Nebraska will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 10 as they travel in-state to compete against Omaha with events beginning at 5:30 p.m.
