NU Takes Home Fourth Title of the Season

Jonesboro, Ark - The Nebraska bowling team earned their fourth tournament title of the 2021-22 season at the Mid-Winter Invitational.

"This was a dominating performance by the team this weekend in a strong 18 team field," said Head Coach Paul Klempa. "We led qualifying by almost 400 pins over 2nd place and swept all 3 bracket matches today to secure the tournament title. Just dominant. The hard work that they have put in over the past 2 weeks has paid serious dividends and it showed in Arkansas this weekend. I am proud of the group for how hard they work and for the high character individuals they are."

Nebraska finished in first place at the end of day two, placing them in the first seed, and started bracket play against Wisconsin Whitewater. The Huskers fell in their first game (189-203), but bounced back in game two by a score of 236-219. NU took another win in game three (202-155), but took their second loss in game four (150-185). Nebraska rebounded in game five by a score of 181-156. In game six, NU secured their ticket to the championship match with one more victory (215-193).

In the Championship match, Nebraska prepared to face-off against Wisconsin Whitewater again. The Huskers started strong in game one (265-197), but fell in game two (179-195). NU quickly recovered and claimed games three (245-174) and four (245-224), bringing the match to 3-1. Wisconsin Whitewater battled back to take games five (193-203) and six (202-204) to even the match 3-3. In the final game, the Huskers edged out the Warhawks by a score of 226-194, to win the tournament title.

"Now on to the Big Red Invite in Lincoln next weekend. We are looking forward to performing in front of our fans and have them witness how talented this team is. Should be a fun time at Hollywood Bowl," said Klempa.

The Huskers will return to the lanes this weekend to host the Big Red Invitational on Feb. 25-27 at Hollywood Bowl in Lincoln, Neb. For the first time in Big Ten Network history, the Big Red Invitational will be broadcasted on Feb 27 at 11 a.m., CT.
