The Nebraska softball team (16-9) claimed its second win of the day with a 3-1 victory over South Dakota (14-8).
Billie Andrews and Anni Raley led the Huskers, each notching a homer in the bottom of the fourth inning. Andrews was 1-for-1 today with two RBIs while Raley went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI.
In the circle, Courtney Wallace (8-4) pitched the complete game, holding the Coyotes to five hits and one run.
For the Coyotes, Grace Garcia (3-2) recorded the loss, pitching four innings, giving up seven hits and three runs.
The Huskers took the lead early. With two outs, singles from Peyton Glatter and Anni Raley and a walk for Abbie Squier loaded the bases. Billie Andrews was walked, bringing in the first run, making it a 1-0 game.
NU extended its lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Annie Raley hit a solo home run to make it 2-0. Abbie Squier hit a single, but was thrown out at first. With two outs, Billie Andrews hit a solo home run to make it 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth.
After a quiet fifth and sixth inning, South Dakota looked to get on the board. Two walks and a single loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly brought in one run for the Coyotes, but it was not enough to extend the game. Nebraska claimed the victory, 3-1.
The Huskers return to action Sunday, March 20 at 9 a.m. to face Tulsa. NU will see South Dakota in game two at 11:30 a.m. CT. The games will be broadcasted live on the Huskers Radio Network and Huskers.com.
