Former Nebraska bowler and current Husker bowling assistant coach Julia Bond took home a silver medal in doubles competition at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Ala., Monday evening.
Bond, a six-time member of Team USA, partnered with fellow American Shannon O'Keefe to compete in the 16-team single-elimination bracket, with best-of-three contests determining which team advanced to the next round.
The duo swept Sweden in the first round and Australia in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Bond and O'Keefe faced Colombia. The teams were tied after two games, but Team USA won the deciding third game and moved on to face Denmark in the gold medal match. Denmark started with an early lead in the first game and held on to win, 199-184. Team USA quickly responded and grabbed the 226-182 victory in Game Two. In the final game, Denmark opened with five consecutive strikes and the Americans weren't able to close the gap, falling 226-177 and finishing second.
