Huskers Begin Fall Season in Wisconsin

The Nebraska men's golf team opens its first season under Head Coach Judd Cornell by traveling to Wisconsin for the Badger Invitational, Sept. 11-13.

The Huskers will travel to Madison on Friday before taking part in Saturday's practice round at the University Ridge Golf Course. The three-day, 54-hole event tees off Sunday, Sept. 11 at 8:30 a.m., as 18 teams attack a 7,286-yard, par-72 layout at University Ridge.

The Badger Invitational's strong field includes Texas A&M, South Carolina and Ole Miss from the SEC, along with Nebraska, Maryland, Purdue and the hosts from Wisconsin out of the Big Ten. Augusta, Campbell, Cincinnati, Illinois State, Marquette, Northern Illinois, South Dakota State, South Florida, UAB, Western Carolina and Western Kentucky complete an impressive 18-team field.

Nebraska's season-opening lineup will feature a mix of established returning golfers and multiple newcomers. Junior Jeremy Sisson (Skaneateles, N.Y.) claimed the top spot in pre-tournament qualifying for the Huskers, while true freshman Quinn Yost (Farmington, N.M.) earned the No. 2 position in Nebraska's lineup. Sisson, a third-year Husker after spending his true freshman season at Arkansas in 2019-20, has played in 18 career rounds at Nebraska.

Yost, one of the top recruits in a strong class of newcomers for the Big Red, earns his first collegiate lineup spot after winning the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship in 2021. Yost, who was also the champion at the Junior Americas Cup/Junior World Qualifier in 2021, was the top-ranked junior golfer in New Mexico. He won the state high school Class 5A championship as well in 2021.

Reed Malleck, a junior from York, Neb., will occupy the No. 3 spot in the Husker lineup. Malleck, who produced a solid summer that included a runner-up finish at the Nebraska Men's Match Play Championship, competed in 15 rounds for the Huskers as a sophomore in 2021-22.

Senior Will Marshall (Elburn, Ill.) brings the most experience to the table in Nebraska's first lineup of the year. The fourth-year Husker has competed in 33 rounds for NU in his career, including 15 last season when he finished with a 73.27 stroke average.

Nebraska's five-player lineup will be completed by two-time NJCAA All-American Harry Crockett. The sophomore from Oxted, England was a member of back-to-back national championship teams at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas the past two seasons. He was the 2021 NJCAA Division I individual runner-up and a member of the All-Nicklaus Team as one of the top 24 golfers across all college divisions in 2021.

A third Husker newcomer, Evan McDermott, will travel to Wisconsin to compete as an individual outside Nebraska's lineup. The true freshman from Spring Lake, Mich., gets his first taste of collegiate competition after earning a spot at the 2022 U.S. Junior Amateur.
