Huskers Add Austrian Champion to 2023 Class

Nebraska Head Coach Pablo Morales announced the addition of Anastasia Tichy, a top-100 recruit, to NU's next swimming and diving class on Thursday, Jan. 5. Tichy is set to join five talented swimmers and a pair of experienced divers who will add depth to the Huskers in the 2023-24 season.

Tichy is from Salzburg, Austria and brings extensive experience competing in the butterfly events.

Representing the Austrian Swimming Federation, Tichy is the 15th-ranked recruit in the country and an Austrian National Champion.

In October of 2022, Tichy competed in the FINA World Cup, hosted in Berlin, where she clocked a pair of personal-best times. In the 200 butterfly, Tichy finished 12th in 2:12.48. She added a 200 freestyle time of 2:05.26 to finish 55th.

Tichy competed at a high level in August during the LEN European Championships. Swimming a personal best time of 1:01.74 in the 100 butterfly, she took 28th. Adding another top finish, Tichy finished 14th in the 200 butterfly with a 2:14.59.

Last spring, Tichy cruised to a pair of long-course victories in the 100 butterfly (1:01.87) and the 200 butterfly (2:16.30) at the 2022 Vienna International Swim Meet.

"I chose Nebraska because it felt like the best fit for me and it can challenge me both academically and athletically," Tichy said. "The coaches and the girls made my decision very easy since it's such a great team. I can't wait to call Lincoln my home!"
