The Nebraska men's golf team announced their 2023-24 schedule Monday, which includes tournaments across the country against a multitude of nationally ranked teams.
The schedule will feature five fall tournaments and six spring contests.
"I'm extremely excited about our 2023-24 schedule," Head Coach Judd Cornell said. "It gives us our greatest opportunity to succeed and reach our goals. Changing up the schedule can be extremely positive and re-energizing to our players to be able to play in different parts of the country. Next year will be challenging but rewarding for the guys."
Nebraska will open the season Sept. 8-10 at the VisitKnoxville.com Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Tennessee at Tennessee National Golf Club. The following week, the Huskers will travel to Cincinnati to compete in the Bearcat Invitational Sept. 18-19.
The Huskers will return to familiar territory to open October, first competing in the the Badger Invitational (Oct. 1-3), hosted by the University of Wisconsin at the University Ridge Golf Course. Nebraska finished fourth in the Badger Invite last September, their best finish in a tournament field of 15 teams or more since 2011.
They will also return to the Purdue Fall Invitational (Oct. 9-10), where they finished fifth place, led by a third-place individual finish from Harry Crockett (Jr., Oxted, England).
Nebraska will close out its fall slate Oct. 16-17 at the Little Rock Invitational in Little Rock, Ark.
After taking three months off, the Huskers will resume their season with spring action in Charleston, S.C., (Feb. 4-6) for the Battle at Briars Creek, hosted by the College of Charleston. Nebraska will stay in the southeast for the The Gator (Feb.17-18) hosted by the University of Florida at the Mark Bostic Golf Course and The Johnnie O at Sea Island Golf Club (St. Simons Island, GA), before heading back to the Midwest for the Tiger Collegiate Invitational in Columbia, Mo., April 8-9, where Nebraska fired its best round in school history in the Tiger Collegiate in 2022-23, as they posted a 14-under 274 at The Club at Old Hawthorne.
Spring play will wrap up with The Hawkeye (April 13-14), hosted by Iowa at Finkbine Golf Course before Big Ten Championships will take place in Columbus, Ohio at Scioto Country Club April 26-28.
Nebraska will return much of the production from the 2022-23 team that posted the fifth best scoring average (293.75) in school history. Will Marshall, the Elburn, Ill., native, will use his extra year of eligibility in 2023-24. In 2022-23, Marshall finished with a 73.68 stroke average in 28 rounds. Harry Crockett (Oxted, England) will look to build on his 71.82 stroke average in 11 rounds, the best mark in school history. Reed Malleck set career-bests down the stretch this season, and returns a 74.86 stroke average to the Husker lineup. Gentry Scheve (Sr., York, Neb.) also played some of his best golf down the stretch and will look to build on that in his senior season.
Several young players will also look to take a step forward in their second year in the Husker program. First-year players Grant Jabenis and Evan McDermott both tallied 20 rounds in their debut seasons. Jabenis, the Omaha Westside product, finished 2022-23 with a 74.50 stroke average, while McDermott posted a 75.45 average. Quinn Yost posted a 76.05 stroke average in his true freshman season.
