Lawrence, Kan. - Over the weekend, four Huskers, Henry Bilicic, Nikolay Sysoev, Maria Taranova and Colson Wells competed at the 84th Jayhawk Open with Sysoev and Taranova winning titles.
On the men’s side, Sysoev and Wells earned a spot in the finals where Wells went up early 2-0 in the opening set before Sysoev rallied to a straight-set victory, 6-4, 6-2. For the women, Taranova defeated Wichita State’s Theodora Chantave in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to claim the victory. Taranova, who went 23-8 and became tied for the winningest freshman in program history last season, earned her first summer title as a Husker.
