Peyton Robb of the Nebraska wrestling team and Cecelia Ossi of the Nebraska rifle team were named Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship award winners, the conference announced Tuesday.
Robb and Ossi were two of 28 honorees among the conference. They were chosen from a pool of over 350 student-athletes who displayed positive sportsmanship throughout the 2023-24 academic year.
One member of each varsity sports team on every campus was chosen by his or her institution as a Sportsmanship Award honoree, and two Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners were then selected from each institution. All of the Sportsmanship Award winners have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, these honorees must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Ossi, a native of Annandale, N.J., is a seven-time College Rifle Coaches Association All-American and won the individual smallbore national championship in 2023. She owns Nebraska school records of 597 in the smallbore and 598 in the air rifle. Ossi is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and was named the Huskers’ Best Female Athlete in 2023. She was on Nebraska’s Scholar Athlete Honor Roll seven times.
Robb, a December 2023 graduate, is a three-time NCAA All-American and a five-time NCAA Qualifier. He has been named to the Academic All-Big Ten team five times and is a four-time National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American. The Owatonna, Minn., native is a five-time Nebraska Scholar Athlete honor roll member and was recognized as the Huskers’ Newcomer of the Year in 2020.
