The Nebraska men’s and women’s tennis teams have both claimed Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Academic Awards for their accomplishments during the 2023-24 season in the classroom. Four women and three men earned ITA Scholar Athlete Awards, and both teams also earned ITA All-Academic Teams distinction.
The women’s team claimed the All-Academic Teams honor, for the 14th consecutive season. Lucy Loy, Jillian Roa, and recent graduates Isa Adrover Gallego and Maja Pietrowicz were awarded the honor of ITA Scholar-Athletes for their academic accomplishments. Loy and Roa also earned Scholar-Athlete status in 2022 and 2023. Adrover Gallego tallied her fifth year as an honoree, making the list all five of her Big Red seasons.
The men’s team was also honored as an All-Academic Team, for its 12th consecutive season. Henry Bilicic, Roni Hietaranta and recent graduate Nic Wiedenhorn were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, recognized for their academic success. This is Hietaranta and Wiedenhorn’s second time receiving the award, having also claimed it in 2023.
To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must hold a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the current academic year, and be listed on the institutional eligibility form. To be named an ITA All-American team, programs must hold a team grade point average of 3.2 or above, have all student-athletes included on the institutional eligibility form, and all varsity letter winners be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
