The Nebraska men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete at the Greeno/Dirksen Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21. The men’s 8k will start at 10 a.m. (CT) and the women’s 5k will start at 10:50 a.m. (CT) at the Mahoney Golf Course. Admission is $5, and fans are encouraged to park in the Mahoney Park lots north of the course, just off of N. 70th and Fremont.
Last Time Out
The Huskers traveled to Sioux Falls, S.D., to take part in the Augustana Twilight meet. The women’s team claimed the 5k title with 33 points, led by Berlyn Schutz, who won the individual women’s title with a time of 16:20.78. Brynna McQuillen (third, 16:50.57) and Taya Skelton (fifth, 17:11.93) added top-five finishes. The men placed third in the four-mile race with 56 points. Trevor Acton finished eighth with a time of 18:45.96, and Sam Kirchner (18:46.23), Liem Chot (18:46.84) and Dennis Chapman (18:47.04) finished in ninth, 10th and 11th, respectively.
Greeno/Dirksen History
The 2024 season marks the 34th annual Greeno/Dirksen meet, which began in 1990, when Nebraska and Nebraska Wesleyan combined meets. It is now the largest cross country event in the state.
The Nebraska women have won 18 titles, while the men have secured 13. The women claimed the team title last year and the men last won in 2015. The men’s team finished fifth in 2023.
