The Nebraska cross country teams competed at the 34th annual Greeno/Dirksen Invitational at the Mahoney Golf Course on Saturday morning.
The women claimed the team title with 39 points. Ali Bainbridge finished in second to lead NU with a 5k time of 17:37.40. Brynna McQuillen followed closely, placing third with a 17:44.29. Berlyn Schutz (10th, 18:03.05), Taya Skelton (11th, 18:06.99) and Cami Merickel (18:08.15) finished out the lineup. No. 30 Iowa State finished second overall with 66 points and Northern Colorado was third with 117.
The men’s team finished in second with 65 total points. Rico Leijenaar led the way with a 10th-place finish and an 8k time of 25:04.00. Dennis Chapman was 15th (25:22.17) and Trevor Acton was 16th (25:23.88). Grant Wasserman (19th, 25:31.38) and Sam Kirchner (28th, 25:45.87) rounded out the Husker lineup. No. 1 Iowa Western CC was first with 45 points, Nebraska was second and No. 30 Air Force was third with 129.
Up Next: The Big Red will compete at the Bill Dellinger Invitational at the Pine Ridge Golf Club in Eugene, Ore., on Friday, Oct. 11. The men’s 8k will start at 1:15 (CT) and the women’s 6k will start at 2 p.m. (CT).
