The Nebraska women’s tennis team kicked off the fall individual season this past weekend with the H-E-B Invite and the ITA All-American Championships. All seven Huskers claimed their first wins of the season and are back to work to prepare for their next tournaments in Tennessee.
At the H-E-B Invite, Huskers Reya Lee Coe, Lucy Loy, Yuzu Miyoshi, Emma Rizzetto, Tiziana Rossini and Maria Taranova each collected their season opening wins in singles and doubles. Overall, the Big Red went 9-12 in singles and 4-5 in doubles at the three-day compass draw invitational, hosted by Baylor.
In Cary, N.C., Ana Zamburek competed in the prequalifying round of singles at the ITA All-American Championships. Zamburek fell in her first match to TCU’s Jade Otway, 6-4, 6-3. In the consolation round, Zamburek claimed the 6-1, 6-3 win over Emma Vaderheryden from Marshall.
Up next, the Big Red head to Tennessee in October for the ITA Regional Championship and Tennessee Invitational. The central region ITA tournament, hosted by Memphis, will run Oct. 9-14. The three-day Tennessee Invitational in Knoxville, Tenn., will begin on Oct. 25.
