Huskers Open Season with Scarlet vs. Cream Intrasquad

The Nebraska swimming and diving team begins its 2024-25 season with its annual Scarlet vs. Cream intrasquad meet at the Devaney Natatorium on Friday at 3 p.m. (CT).

The Huskers enter the season after working their way to a top-30 finish at the 2024 NCAA Championships. Nebraska closed the 2023-24 campaign with a 7-2 dual record.

Junior Gena Jorgenson (Aberdeen, S.D.) led the way for the Big Red in the water last year, capturing first-team All-America honors in the 1,650 freestyle with a school-record 15:55.71 to finish eighth at nationals. Jorgenson, who was named a Big Ten Swimmer to Watch on Wednesday, owns six school records for the Huskers and will lead the Scarlet roster today. Seniors JoJo Randby and Sydney McCracken will add leadership for a Scarlet team that features newcomers Maisie Gilford, Nettie Knapton, Marissa Laurin and Jazmyn Lunn.

Junior diver Kelsey Clairmont (Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada) added a 20th-place finish on platform at the NCAA Championships, after taking eighth at the NCAA Zone D Championships. Clairmont, who was chosen as a Big Ten Diver to Watch on Wednesday, will be a leader for the Cream team, along with seniors Maia Hall, Caterina Bisiacchi and Madison Lloyd. Junior Giulia Marchi and sophomore Beatrix Tanko will add more leadership for a Cream team that includes newcomers Jenna Gogel, Riley Miklos and Katy Zboinski.

Last season, the Scarlet defeated the Cream, 97-81, to avenge a 91-89 loss to the Cream in 2022. The Cream also recorded a 126-121 win in 2021.
