The Nebraska men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Bill Dellinger Invitational on Friday afternoon. The women placed third in the 6k with 105 points and the men finished 11th in the 8k with 300 points.
The entire women’s scoring lineup posted personal bests. Berlyn Schutz placed fourth to lead the women, crossing the line at 20:06.2. Ali Bainbridge followed her with a time of 20:08.6 and a seventh-place finish and Brynna McQuillen was 19th with a 20:35.6. Taya Skelton (36th, 20:57.8) and Cami Merickel (54th, 21:21.5) rounded out the scoring lineup for the Huskers. No. 6 Utah claimed the women’s team title with 25 points, No. 12 Oregon placed second with 53 and Nebraska was third.
Trevor Acton led the men’s team with a personal-best 8k time of 24:23.60 and a 60th-place finish. Sam Kirchner (24:26.6) and Liem Chot (24:31.6) placed 66th and 69th, respectively, and Grant Wasserman was 84th with a time of 24:37.7. Kirchner and Wasserman’s times were also career bests in the 8k. No. 2 BYU finished first in the 8k with 15 points, while No. 22 Oregon was second with 97 and Gonzaga was third with 101.
Up Next: NU will kick off the postseason with the Big Ten Championships on Friday, Nov. 1 in Savoy, Ill. The women’s 6k will start at 10:35 a.m. (CT), while the men’s 8k will start at 11:35 a.m. (CT).
