Annapolis, Md. - The No. 10 Husker rifle team finished first in a three-team match on Saturday. Nebraska defeated No. 4 Ole Miss, 4,705-4,694, and No. 12 Navy, 4,705-4,701.
Junior Emma Rhode finished in first place with an aggregate score of 1,187 to pace Nebraska (4-1).
“It’s always a good day when we can go on the road and get a win,” said Coach Richard Clark. “It was exciting to watch the girls compete in smallbore today, especially Emma, who led the way for the team and set the pace for the entire match. As a team, our air rifle left a lot to be desired. The best part about the double header is that we don’t have to wait till next week to try it again. We’ve got another opportunity tomorrow to go out and perform to our ability.”
Rhode placed fourth in the air rifle with a mark of 595. Freshman Alivia Perkins followed in seventh place with a score of 592. Riley Dunn (ninth, 588), Grace Corbett (12th, 588), Maddy Moyer (16th, 586) and Camillia Johannessen (17th, 586) rounded out the lineup for the Big Red.
In the smallbore, Nebraska earned three of the top five spots. Rhode placed first with a score of 592. Moyer and Perkins also turned in strong efforts by placing fourth and fifth, respectively, with scores of 585. The tiebreaker was determined by the number of 10-point shots by each athlete. Dunn (10th, 582), Johannessen (17th, 574), and Corbett (22nd, 559) finished out the smallbore lineup for NU.
The Huskers will stay in Annapolis, Md., to take on No. 12 Navy and No. 13 Memphis on Sunday. The match is slated to start at 8 a.m. (central).
