Huskers Host Hoosiers to Wrap Up Big Ten Play

The Nebraska soccer team (5-10-1, 2-7-1 Big Ten) wraps up the Big Ten season at home on Sunday as the Huskers host Indiana (6-8-2, 1-8-1 Big Ten). Action is slated for 1:05 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on Big Ten Plus. 

Numbers to Watch

  • Sarah Weber, a 2024 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, recorded her second career hat trick against Creighton earlier this season. It’s the 36th hat trick in school history and second of the 2024 season for Weber.  
  • Weber is also third in school history with 330 total shots, sitting behind Meghan Anderson (344) in second, and tied for seventh in shots on goal with 129. Additionally, Weber is currently fourth in the country in shots per game, as she is averaging 5.31.
  • In goal scoring, Weber’s nine goals on the season now ties her for ninth in Husker history with 41 career finishes.
  • Florence Belzile is ninth all-time in Husker history with 26 career assists, just one shy of Lindsay Eddleman in eighth. Lauryn Anglim, the team’s assists leader, has five on the season. 

Quick Notes

  • The NCAA released the updated RPI on Monday, and Nebraska is ranked 105th. Three Big Ten teams are in the Top 10: USC (7th), Penn State (8th) and Iowa (10th). Indiana is 101st.
  • In the conference standings, Weber is second with 85 shots on the year and is tied for fourth with nine goals on the season. She is fifth in shots on goal with 27 on the season, just 15 out of first. 
  • NU enters the week tied for 13th in the conference standings with seven points (three points for a win, one point for a tie). 
  • Reese Snowden is the lone Husker freshman to see action on the pitch last year, as she is currently second on the team in goals (4) and tied for second in points with eight. 
  • During the 2023 season, the Huskers averaged 1,326 fans per game at Hibner Stadium, third most in Husker history and 15th in the nation. This season, NU is ninth in average attendance with 1,442 fans, and the match against Creighton garnered 2,382 fans, second-most all-time at Hibner Stadium. 

Scouting Indiana

  • Indiana is 6-8-2 on the year and 1-8-1 in the conference. The Hoosiers are 0-2 against ranked teams, and their lone conference win was at Oregon, 3-1.
  • The Hoosiers are 17th in the conference standings with four points, and like the Huskers, have one remaining conference match. 
  • Notably, freshman Layla Sirdah leads the team with seven goals and six assists, while midfielder Ella Britt has tallied a team-high 39 shots along with three goals and one assist. 
  • Head Coach Erwin van Bennekom is in his sixth season at the helm of the Indiana soccer program. He holds a career record of 44-38-20 and is assisted by Tim Verschuren, Jennifer Wandt and Seve Hirst. 
  • Nebraska leads the all-time series between the two teams, 9-1-1. The Huskers are 5-0 at home against the Hoosiers, and Indiana’s lone win came in 2011.
