Weber’s Brace Pushes Huskers Past Indiana

Lincoln, Neb. - Senior Sarah Weber tallied a brace in her final career game, as the Nebraska (6-10-1, 3-7-1 Big Ten) soccer team topped Indiana (6-9-2, 3-7-1 Big Ten) 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in front of 1,399 fans.

The teams were scoreless for the first almost 40 minutes of the first half until Weber broke through the Indiana defense and tallied a finish in the 39th minute into the top right corner of the net. The score marked Weber’s team-leading 10th on the year and fifth match this season with at least one finish.

The Huskers held the 1-0 lead at halftime, led by Weber offensively with two shots, but Indiana held the advantage in shots (6-4) and shots on frame (3-2). Sami Hauk tallied three saves, while Nebraska earned one corner.

In the second half, Sadie Waite extended the Nebraska lead in the 64th minute as she found the back of the net in the 64th minute off a turnover in the Indiana backfield. Waite’s finish marked her second of the season and seventh career. The Hoosiers then answered in the 65th minute with a score of their own from Marisa Grzesiak, off an assist from Layla Sirdah.

In the 75th minute, Weber tallied her seventh career multi-score game and 43rd career, good for seventh all-time in Husker history. Off a throw from Nicola Hauk, Florence Belzile sent a cross into the box, which was met by Weber and sent past the Indiana goalie. The score remained 3-1 for the final 15 minutes, and the Huskers ended 2024 with a 6-10-1 overall record and 3-7-1 mark in conference play.

Senior Hauk earned her 30th career win as she tallied six saves and played the complete game, and fellow seniors Haley Peterson and Weber, along with Reese Borer, Waite and Anglim also played the entire 90 minutes.
