Huskers Battle Jayhawks in Kansas

Nebraska swimming and diving hits the road to take on Kansas Friday, Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. (CT) at Robinson Natatorium in Lawrence.

Nebraska is coming off a 202-94 victory over Iowa State when the Huskers captured 13 individual titles. 

Gena Jorgenson led the Huskers with individual victories in the 1,650 (16:48.14) and 500 (4:59.39) freestyles, along with a win in the 200 backstroke (2:02.65). The All-American from Aberdeen, S.D., owns is undefeated with nine individual wins this season. Her performance in the victory over Iowa State earned her Big Ten Swimmer-of-the-Week honors (Oct. 30).  

Maisie Gilford (50 and 100 freestyles) and Beatrix Tanko (200 freestyle and 100 butterfly) each clinched two individual victories against the Cyclones.  

Senior Maia Hall swept the breaststroke events, winning both the 100 (1:03.68) and 200 (2:18.57) breaststrokes against Iowa State, while freshman Marissa Laurin claimed her first collegiate victory in the 200 individual medley (2:06.17).

In the diving well, sophomore Abby Baxter captured victories in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events. Antonina Harned claimed runner-up on both boards.  

Last Meeting with Kansas
Last season, the Huskers powered past the Jayhawks in a 187-113 team victory. The Huskers claimed eight individual titles, with Maia Hall sweeping the breaststroke events and Gena Jorgenson winning the 1,000 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 400 IM. Beatrix Tanko clocked 55.87 to win the 100 butterfly. Antonina Harned scored 331.50 to win the three meter. Abby Baxter secured second place on the one meter with a score of 285.53.

The Jayhawks lead the all-time series with Nebraska 20-11.

A Look at the Jayhawks
Kansas began its dual season in Champaign, Ill., falling to the Illini, 191-109. The Jayhawks then secured their first dual victory of the season at home, scoring a 250-99 win over South Dakota. 

Against the Coyotes, the Jayhawks were led by senior Lezli Sisung who secured first place in the 50 (25.99), 100 (54.78) and 200 (1:59.71) backstrokes. Ryan Johnson took wins in the 50 (29.82), 100 (1:04.24) and 200 (2:18.81) breaststrokes, sweeping the breaststroke events. Shiyun Lai scored 378.38 on the three-meter and 325.28 on the one-meter to take first place on both boards.
