The Nebraska men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to compete at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet on Friday, Nov. 15 at the Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill. The women’s 6k will start at 11 a.m. (CT), while the men’s 10k will start at 12 p.m. (CT).

The top two teams, and the top four finishing individuals not represented on a qualifying team will automatically qualify from the region for the NCAA Cross Country Championships to be contested on Nov. 23rd in Madison, Wisconsin. The NCAA selection committee will also select an additional thirteen at-large teams and two additional individuals from across all nine regions to join those automatic qualifiers for the national championship. At-large teams are selected by evaluating the body of work each team has achieved throughout the cross country season. The two at-large individual qualifiers will be awarded to the next two top placing individuals in each gender who were not selected as an automatic qualifier.
Last Time Out
The Huskers competed at the 2024 Big Ten Championships, which was highlighted by Ali Bainbridge finishing 19th overall and garnering Second-Team All-Big Ten honors. Brynna McQuillen placed 38th with a time of 20:10.0, and Taya Skelton (66th, 20:33.7), Cami Merickel (88th, 20:50.1) and Berlyn Schutz (109th, 21:01.5) rounded out the lineup. The women finished 11th as a team in the 6k with 283 points.
Trevor Acton led the Husker men with an 80th-place finish, crossing the line at 24:05.6, while Rico Leijenaar placed 85th with a time of 24:07.9. Liem Chot (113th, 24:36.9), Dennis Chapman (114th, 24:38.2) and Grant Wasserman (120th, 24:46.1) finished out the scoring. The men placed 14th overall in the 8k with 410 points.
NCAA Regional History
The Huskers have competed in the NCAA Midwest Regional since 1997. The top men’s team finish is third (2001, 1997) and the top women’s team finish is first (2003). Ann Gaffigan placed second in 2003 to mark the best women’s individual finish, and Jeroen Broekzitter has the best men’s finish, as he crossed the line first in 1997.
