Huskers Cap Fall Season in Ohio

The No. 7 Nebraska rifle team will finish out the fall portion of its season at No. 9 Ohio State on Saturday, Nov. 16 and at No. 14 Akron on Sunday, Nov. 17. The match against OSU will start at 8 a.m. (central), while the match against the Zips will begin at 7 a.m. (central). Live results are available here

Last weekend, the Huskers took on No. 16 UTEP in their only home match of the season. NU earned the 4,720-4,672 victory and had four shooters place in the top five overall. The Big Red’s aggregate score was a season high. Junior captain Emma Rhode claimed titles in all three events, as she posted the second-highest scores in school history in both the smallbore (594) and aggregate (1,190) and a season-high mark of 596 in the air rifle.

So far this season, NU has tied the fifth-highest team score in program history with its 4,720. The team also posted the third-highest smallbore score in Nebraska history with a 2,345 at Memphis on Oct. 5. Rhode has had a standout season, having posted the second-highest aggregate mark in school history with her 1,190, along with the second-highest smallbore score with her 594 against UTEP. Her 594 in the smallbore tied for the highest smallbore mark that has been posted nationally during the 2024-25 season. 

Ohio State has wins over No. 16 UTEP, No. 20 The Citadel and Mt. Aloysius College and losses to No. 5 Alaska-Fairbanks and No. 6 Murray State. The Buckeyes average an aggregate score of 4,704.40. 

Akron averages an aggregate score of 4,696.50 and has collected wins over No. 19 North Georgia, John Jay, UT Martin, Schreiner and Mount Aloysius. The Zips have lost to No. 8 Ole Miss and No. 10 Memphis.

NU has a 19-9 advantage in the series with Ohio State, and leads Akron 16-4 all-time. The last time the Huskers met both OSU and Akron was at the 2024 NCAA Qualifier, when NU took second with a score of 4,703, the Buckeyes were first with a 4,710 and Akron placed third with a 4,689.

Following the matches in Ohio, the Big Red will have a break for the rest of the fall semester before it opens the spring portion of the season at the Roger Withrow Invitational in Murray, Ky., on Saturday, Jan. 18.
