Huskers Sign Two for 2025

Lincoln, Neb. - The No. 5 Nebraska bowling team finalized its 2025 incoming freshmen recruiting class, bringing in two athletes to the Husker roster: Samantha Kanehailua and Abby Starkey.

Abigail Starkey, Schaumburg, IL

“We are excited to welcome Abby to our Husker Bowling family,” Head Coach Paul Klempa said. “She is a very accomplished and talented player that will help us achieve our goals for years to come. Abby is certain to fit in well and be a great teammate at Nebraska. We look forward to see her grow and succeed as a Husker.”

Starkey, a right-handed bowler from Schaumburg, Ill., brings years of experience to the bowling program. Starkey is a two-time Illinois Pepsi Champion, along with holding 16 Elite Youth Tour titles. The Class of 2025 senior is a 2024 Junior Team USA member and a three-time PBA Junior Midwest Regional Champion.

“I chose Nebraska because I loved the positive energy and vibes the campus brought me, and it felt the most like home,” Starkey said.

Samantha Kanehailua, Pearl City, HI

“Samantha is a great addition to our 2025 recruiting class,” Klempa said. “She is an accomplished player on the national scene and has a really sound game. We are fortunate to sign her and she rounds out the class very nicely. We expect much success from Samantha as she grows and develops as a Husker athlete.

Kanehailua brings immense national experience to the Husker squad. Kanehailua led her high school team to a state championship in 2024-25 and was named the OIA Player of the Year. She holds a high game of 297 and intends to enter the College of Business at Nebraska.

“I chose Nebraska because when I toured, it felt welcoming,” Kanehailua said.

Starkey and Kanehailua will join the Huskers in the Fall of 2025.
