Nebraska swimming and diving continues its stretch of road duals when the Huskers clash with South Dakota State in Brookings on Friday, Nov. 8, at 4 p.m. (CT).
The Huskers are coming off an impressive 182-117 road victory at Kansas last Friday. Nebraska's decisive win was the first for the Huskers against the Jayhawks in Lawrence since Jan. 29, 1999.
Maia Hall and Gena Jorgenson led the Big Red with three individual victories apiece, while newcomer Maisie Gilford continued her success with a pair of individual wins in the sprint freestyle events.
Jorgenson, a junior from Aberdeen, S.D., returns to her home state undefeated in individual races on the season. The 2024 first-team All-American dominated at Kansas in the 200 (1:48.31) and 500 freestyles (4:48.29) as well as the 200 backstroke (1:57.67) against the Jayhawks.
Gilford swept the sprint freestyle races for the Huskers. The junior from England recorded season-best times in both the 50 (23.18) and 100 (50.57) to win both events.
Freshman Riley Miklos made an impact early in the meet, capturing the 1,000 freestyle title (10:10.01), while Caterina Bisiacchi added a solid runner-up finish in 10:15.49.
Sophomores Abby Baxter and Antonina Harned came in clutch for the Big Red in the diving well. Baxter scored 302.70 to take runner-up on the three-meter board, before adding a third-place finish on the one-meter board (259.88). Harned posted a 273.53 on the one-meter board, after claiming third on the three meter (295.95).
Last Meeting with South Dakota State
Last season, the Huskers powered past the Jackrabbits, 195-96, in Lincoln. Nebraska captured 13 individual first-place finishes along with winning both the 200 medley and freestyle relays. Beatrix Tanko secured a pair of victories in the 50 (24.22) and 500 (5:06.84) freestyles. Maia Hall took the 100 breaststroke (1:05.28) and JoJo Randby posted a 2:22.85 to win the 200 breaststroke. Abby Baxter came out on top on the one-meter board with a score of 305.55. Antonina Harned posted a 318.68 to take the title on the three meter.
A Look at the Jackrabbits
South Dakota State enters the meet at 1-2 on the dual season, with its most recent dual resulting in a 154.5-145 victory over St. Thomas. The Jackrabbits are coming off a third-place finish at the Huskies Invite in Rochester, Minn.
In its dual against St. Thomas, South Dakota State’s Gigi Hioki recorded a pair of individual third-place finishes in the 200 (1:52.69) and 500 (5:09.64) freestyles. Freshman Kailee Crane clocked a 1:00.23 to take third place in the 100 IM. Poppy Mead took third in the 200 butterfly (2:07.93).
