Nebraska National Champion Axelina Johansson and All-American Tyus Wilson were honored by the Big Ten on Tuesday, Dec. 10, as preseason athletes to watch entering the 2024-25 track and field season.
Five-time All-American Johansson owns the shot put school record and looks to continue her impressive Husker career. The senior from Hok, Sweden, finished as a bronze medalist at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships, throwing 59-10 1/4 (18.24m) to earn her fourth First-Team All-American honor. Last season, she also earned her second-straight Big Ten Title and third overall with a mark of 60-8 (18.49m) at the outdoor championships.
Senior Wilson, a three-time First-Team All-American from Sterling, Kan., is the reigning NCAA Runner Up and Big Ten Indoor and Outdoor Champion. He owns the No. 3 high jump mark in school history and was the 2024 Outdoor Big Ten Field Athlete of the Year.
The Nebraska track and field team opens its season at the Husker Holiday Open on Friday, Dec. 13 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track. Events begin at 9 a.m. (CT), and admission will be free for all home competitions.
