The No. 10 Nebraska rifle team travels to West Point, N.Y. to take on No. 14 Army, No. 20 UAB, and Mount Aloysius on Saturday, Jan. 25. The match is set to start at 7 a.m. (central).
The Huskers (8-5) enter the match coming off a third place finish at the Roger Withrow Invitational in Murray, Ky. on Jan. 18. NU (4,706) finished under No. 1 Kentucky (4,731) and No. 5 Murray State (4,725) and topped No. 10 Memphis (4,704), No. 19 North Georgia (4,618), No. 14 Jacksonville State (4,670), and UAB (4,559). Junior Emma Rhode had a record-setting day, shooting the highest aggregate score in program history with a mark of 1,193, and tying the highest air rifle total in school history with a score of 598.
The Big Red look to finish the regular season strong this week and next. Rhode currently owns the fifth-highest average aggregate score in the country with an average of 1,187, as well as the second-highest smallbore average, with a score of 592.5 on the season. The team as a whole has also excelled so far this season. Nebraska holds the tenth-highest average aggregate score this season with a mark of 4,704.8.
“We’re excited to be getting back on the road this weekend,” said Coach Richard Clark. “We’ve spent a lot of time this week reconfirming we know how to do the small things well and the team has shown they are more than capable of competing at a very elite level. If we can keep the nerves at bay and focus on being ourselves I think we are going to see some really great things this weekend from the team!”
No. 20 UAB enters the match after placing seventh at the Roger Withrow Invitational with a score of 4,559. Nebraska now holds a 6-0 series record against the Blazers.
No. 14 Army comes in with a record of 2-7 on the season. The Big Red have matched up against Army 44 times since 2000, and hold a 27-18 series record. The Huskers have not faced Army since a 4,677-4,626 win over the Golden Knights on Oct. 23, 2021.
Mount Aloysius enters the match at 0-6 in their first season as an NCAA rifle team. The Mounties have posted an average aggregate score of 4,537.5 so far this season.
Following the match at Army, NU will travel to El Paso, Texas to face off against No. 16 UTEP in their last match of the regular season. The match is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. (CT).
