Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska bowling team has announced the addition of the 2025 Big Red Invitational which will take place at Hollywood Bowl (920 N 48th St, Lincoln, NE 68504), from Feb. 21-23.
NU will go into the lone home tournament of the season after starting the Spring session with a first-place finish at the Northeast Classic in New Castle, Del., after going a perfect 13-0 over the weekend, and putting up a season high average of 215.8. Before the home stand, the Huskers will travel to Arlington, Texas for the Prairie View A&M Invite this upcoming weekend, followed by trips to the Flyer Classic in Lockport, Ill., and the Mid-Winter Invitational in Jonesboro, Ark.
“We are pleased to be hosting the Big Red Invite this year,” Head Coach Paul Klempa said. “We have a good field of teams and the competition will be fierce. It is an honor for the team to have the opportunity to compete in front of Husker Fans and we look forward to it. We know Husker Nation will turn-out in full to help our team win.”
This is the first home tournament Nebraska has hosted since the 2023 Big Red Invitational where the Cornhuskers finished first in the invite to secure the team’s third tournament victory of the season.
“Hosting a tournament here in Nebraska means a lot to me,” said freshman Karina Capron. “As the only one on the team from this state, it’s a chance to represent my roots, my community, and the place that shaped me. There’s no better feeling than competing at home.”
The teams travelling to the star city include three programs in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Top 25: No. 5 Arkansas State, No. 7 Wichita State and No. 13 McKendree. Central Missouri, Elmhurst, Quincy and Valaparaiso round out the playing field.
Attendance will be free for spectators including the practice session for teams on Thursday and giveaways will be held for spectators on all competition days with a bowling ball giveaway on Sunday.
The first ball will be thrown by Herbie on Friday morning with competition beginning at 9:00 a.m. (CT) with five sets of five-game baker matches. The tournament continues with five traditional matches Saturday morning, beginning at 10:10 a.m. (CT). Competition on Sunday will include two best 4-of-7 matches, beginning at 8:55 a.m. (CT). The tournament winner will be based on the per-game average for all three days of competition.
Individual awards will be awarded at approximately 12:30 p.m. (CT) on Sunday and will go to the top five individual averages for players that compete in all five traditional matches. Additionally, the MVP award will be given to the top performing individual.
