Nebraska track and field earned five event titles on Friday’s Prairie Wolf Invitational, hosted at the Devaney Center Indoor Track.
The event was highlighted by three Huskers setting meet records. In her freshman debut, Kelsie Belquist set the top mark, running 55.75 in the 400m. Seven Hicks clocked a meet record of her own in the 60m dash, running 7.57, and Kellyn Kortemeyer added to the count in the women’s shot put with a throw of 16.29m (53-5 ½).
Maxwell Otterdahl earned the event title in the men’s weight throw with a mark of 20.28m (66-6 1/2). On the women’s side, Sage Burbach threw 17.03m (55-10 1/2) to finish second.
Rebecca Pecora won the women’s high jump, clearing 1.70m (5-7), while Favour Wanjoku placed second (1.59m, 5-2 1/2).
Competing unattached, Till Steinforth and Johanna Ilves set meet records as Steinforth went 7.49m (24-7) in the long jump to claim the event title, and Ilves ran 8.43 in the 60mH to win.
Up next, the full team will compete on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Mark Colligan Memorial. Field events start at 10:45 a.m. and running events begin at 12 p.m. The event is free admission and will feature the Lil’ Red 60m Dash, a race for kids aged pre-kindergarten through sixth grade, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
