Huskers Take Down Undefeated Cougars, 5-2

The Nebraska women’s tennis team notched another dual win in its spring season, after defeating Washington State, 5-2, on Sunday morning. The Huskers claimed four singles matches and two doubles matches to improve to 4-0.

The dual began with doubles, sophomores Emma Rizzetto and Tiziana Rossini cruising to a 6-1 win over Abouelsaad/Markov on Court Three to get things started. Reya Lee Coe and Maria Taranova then topped Tse/Kanemaki 6-3 on Court Two to secure the doubles point for the Huskers.

Up 1-0, the Big Red took the singles courts. On Court One, Ana Zamburek defeated Alvarez in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Coe won the next match on Court Four, taking down No. 123 Abouelsaad in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Taranova then bested Tse on Court Three, 6-4, 6-3. Rossini grabbed the last win for NU, taking down Puvill 6-2, 7-5. Rizzetto then battled but fell to Murphy, 7-6(3), 6-4, and Loy was defeated by Markov, 3-6, 6-3, 3-6 to end the day for the Huskers.

The Big Red will travel to Waco, Texas to face off against Baylor on Friday, Jan. 31 at noon CT. The following day, the Huskers will stay put to take on Denver on Feb. 1 at 10 a.m. CT. The duals will be held at Hurd Tennis Center and will be streamed on Playsight.
