The Nebraska men’s gymnastics team participated in the College Gymnastics Association’s third annual All-Star meet. Nebraska gymnasts Taylor Christopulos, Asher Cohen, Chris Hiser, Chase Mondi, Max Odden and Zac Tiderman competed in Team West’s first victory over Team East. Graduate Student Zac Tiderman placed first on the high bar and second on the vault, earning him the CGA All-Star MVP. Senior Chris Hiser grabbed a first-place finish on still rings. Chase Mondi earned second on floor exercise and third on vault. Additionally, NU’s Taylor Christopulos was named team captain for Team West.
On floor exercise, Mondi earned second with a 9.575. Christopulos earned a 9.550 for a third-place finish to help put Team West above East at 37.300-37.100.
On pommel horse, Team West clinched the title with Oklahoma’s Ignacio Rockers taking first and putting West up 75.825-74.475 from Team East.
On still rings, Hiser earned the first-place finish with a 9.800. The Big Red’s Asher Cohen took second in the event with a 9.650. At the halfway mark, Team West had 113.025 and Team East was at 111.375.
On vault, Tiderman led the Huskers with 9.675, earning second place, followed by Mondi with 9.650 in third place. Christopulos earned a 9.600 for fourth place. Team West kept East at bay, 151.00-149.575.
On parallel bars, Team East narrowed the gap to 188.150-187.350 against Team West.
In the final rotation on the high bar, NU’s Odden and Tiderman finished out the rotation to clinch Team West’s narrow victory, 225.825-225.550. Tiderman earned first place with a 9.850 score followed by Odden’s 9.825.
The Huskers head to the Rocky Mountain Open for the first regular-season meet on Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. (CT) in Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colo.
