With a 4-3 start to its spring season, the Nebraska men’s tennis team will travel to Ole Miss (6-0) and Tulsa (6-5) this weekend. The Big Red will first take on the Rebels on Friday, Feb. 14 at noon (CT). Then, the Huskers will travel to Tulsa to face the Golden Hurricane on Sunday, Feb. 16 at noon (CT).
The Huskers are 4-3 this spring season, defeating Drake, Bellarmine, Santa Clara and Oklahoma State. They have been defeated by #18 Arizona State, Arkansas and Baylor.
Calvin Mueller and Anton Shepp lead the team in singles wins with four each. Husker doubles duo Leo Linquet and Joan Torres Espinosa are 5-2 in the spring, leading the team in doubles wins.
NU looks to improve on its 2023-24 spring season finish of 17-10. The team reached the Big Ten Tournament semifinals for the first time in program history, and concluded with the most dual wins in a season since 1990. The Big Red finished with a national ranking of No. 49, and Mueller being named First Team All-Big Ten.
Ole Miss (6-0, 0-0 SEC)
History: Nebraska leads 1-0
The Rebels are off to an undefeated start to their 2024-25 spring season, with wins over Eastern Kentucky, Memphis, Tulane, Georgia Southern and Belmont. The matchup will be the second ever between the programs, with their last meeting being in 1988. One Rebel is in the rankings, #101 Noah Schlagenhauf. The Ole Miss squad consists of four freshmen and five juniors. The Rebels ended last season 12-15, ranked No. 63.
Tulsa (6-5, 0-0 American)
History: Tulsa leads 13-8
The last meeting between the Big Red and the Golden Hurricane was Feb. 17, 2023 which resulted in a 3-4 loss for the Huskers. Tulsa currently holds a 6-5 spring record and is on a three-match win streak. Tulsa is characterized by their young team of seven underclassmen. The Golden Hurricane ended last season 18-13, ranked No. 61.
