Big Red to Host Hoosiers for Senior Sunday

After a tight loss at Iowa last weekend, the No. 5 Nebraska wrestling team seeks to notch another Big Ten win in its final home dual of the season, hosting No. 21 Indiana on Sunday afternoon. The Feb. 16 match is set to start at 12:30 p.m. CT, and will be streamed on Big Ten Plus, with five Husker seniors to be honored at the conclusion of the dual.

In its road trip to Iowa City, the Big Red fell to 9-3 (4-2 Big Ten) to the No. 3 team in the country. The 19-16 loss had three upsets, ending in the closest margin for a Nebraska loss between the border foes since the 1987-88 season.

Seeking to return to the win column, No. 5 Nebraska will host No. 21 Indiana in Lincoln for a Senior Sunday dual with up to five top-25 ranked matches. At the top of the Hoosiers’ lineup, #18 Jacob Bullock at heavyweight who is 14-8 in his redshirt senior year. The Big Ten matchup has potential for rematches at six weight classes. At 125, #8 Caleb Smith is 1-0 against #19 Jacob Moran. Moran leads Alan Koehler 1-0. Four other Huskers have 1-0 head-to-head records of their respective Hoosier at 141 (Hardy), 165, 174 (Pinto) and 197. At heavyweight, #18 Bullock leads 1-0 against #21 Harley Andrews.

HUSKERS TO WATCH

  • Lenny Pinto (174) and Silas Allred (184) secured the Huskers’ two upsets in Iowa City last weekend, taking down #6 Patrick Kennedy and #5 Gabe Arnold respectively. The two decisions kept the match close, and got both Pinto and Allred to their 30th career dual wins.
  • At 125, Caleb Smith has notched 99 career wins between his time at Nebraska and Appalachian State. On Senior Sunday, Smith could take on #19 Jacob Moran in an attempt to claim victory number 100.
  • Ridge Lovett (149) has fallen back to No. 4 in the rankings after his loss to Parco. The senior is 10-1 in dual competition this season, has claimed 46 dual points for the Huskers this year, and has reached 90 career and 40 dual wins, all with NU. Lovett has claimed weekly Big Ten honors twice this year.
  • Christopher Minto (165) is now 16-2 in his freshman season, with 11 bonus-point wins. Minto comes in as high as No. 8 after two consecutive top-10 wins. The redshirt freshman has been honored twice by the conference with weekly honors as Freshman of the Week.
  • At 157, Antrell Taylor is currently No. 4 in the country, and seeking his 20th career dual win. Redshirt freshman Weston Dalton is also a probable at 157, in what would be his dual debut for the Huskers. Dalton is 5-4 on the season.
