Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska men’s gymnastics defeated the Greenville Panthers 322.700-309.350 on Saturday afternoon at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Nebraska secured it's first season sweep in events. Freshman Caden Clinton Husker debut competing on p-bars, high bars and pommel. Jack Critz made his debut on still rings. Nathan York on parallel bars and vault, Chase Mondi on floor, Taylor Christopulos on pommel, James Friedman on rings and Max Odden on high bar all won event titles.
In the first rotation on floor, Mondi earned first place with a stick landing and a 14.10. Chris Hiser got fourth with a 13.20, York placed seventh with a 12.70 and Luke James earned an 11.20.
On pommel horse, Christopulos put up a 14.20 to earn his 24th event title. Friedman placed third with a 13.80, followed by Clinton who earned fourth place with a 13.65. York placed sixth with a 13.60.
In the third rotation on rings, Friedman earned his first event title as a Husker with a 13.85, followed by Hiser who earned a 13.80 to tie for second. Jack Critz made his Husker debut and placed fourth with a 13.00. Koppie made a season debut and finished seventh with an 11.75.
The fourth rotation was on the vault; York placed first with a 14.45, and Mondi put up a 14.30 to take second. James rounded out the top three with a 14.20. Anthony Koppie placed seventh with a 13.75.
On the fifth rotation, York continued an excellent performance with a 14.15 on parallel bars. Joey Pepe put up a career-high 13.85 to claim second. Caden Clinton tied for fourth with a 13.30. Critz placed sixth, earning a 13.05.
On high bar, Odden continued the Huskers’ success and put up a 14.10 to earn his second event title. Caden Clinton earned second place with a 13.25. Taylor Christopulos earned the Husker sweep with third place and a 13.15. Mondi made his high bar debut, placing sixth with a 11.90.
Up next, gymnasts Christopulos, Clinton and Alex Nitache will head to Louisville, Ky., to compete in the Winter Cup on Feb 21-23. The Huskers will travel west to face No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 7 California in a tri-meet in Berkeley, Calif. On Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. (CT).
