Huskers Host Billikens, Mavericks on Saturday

The Nebraska women’s tennis team is set to host a doubleheader dual day against the Saint Louis Billikens and Omaha Mavericks this Saturday, Feb. 15. The Huskers take on the Billikens at 11 a.m. (CT) at the Dillon Tennis Center, followed by the Mavericks at 4 p.m. (CT).

NU is coming off of a 6-1 win over South Dakota last weekend, improving their season to 6-1, while the Billikens are 1-3 with a most recent victory over Eastern Illinois. Omaha enters the weekend 2-4, with wins over Sioux Falls and Morningside. The Huskers will head into the doubleheader day with only one loss this season, at No. 25 Baylor.

The Huskers are coming off the fall individual season in which the team tallied 34 singles wins. Sophomore Maria Taranova led the Big Red in fall singles wins with seven, and had a stellar freshman season in which she earned a 23-8 record, the most wins by a freshman since 2010.

In the 2023-24 season, led by head coach German Dalmagro in his first year at NU, the Huskers went 14-11. The team accomplished two Big Ten Tournament wins for the first time in program history and senior Raphaelle Lacasse was named an All-Big Ten First Team honoree.

Saint Louis (1-3, 0-0 Atlantic 10)
History: NU leads, 6-0
The Billikens bring a young squad to Lincoln, with six underclassmen on the roster. Freshman Madison Hill was the A-10 Rookie of the Week, honored on Tuesday, Feb. 11. Head Coach James Tobin is in his first season at Saint Louis, after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at Lindenwood University. The Billikens ended last season unranked, with a 15-4 record.

Omaha (2-4, 0-0 Summit League)
History: NU leads, 10-0
The Mavericks have a veteran team for the 2024-25 season, featuring six upperclassmen. Head Coach Adam Summitt is in his ninth year with UNO, having coached three players to All-Summit League honors last season. The Mavericks finished the 2023-24 year on a four-match win streak, to end with a record of 11-13.
