Lincoln, Neb. - The No. 1 Nebraska bowling team will host the Big Red Invitational this weekend, Feb. 21-23, at Hollywood Bowl (920 N 48th St, Lincoln, NE 68504).
The Huskers come into the first Big Red Invitational tournament since the 2022-23 with a fifth-place finish at the Mid-Winter Invitational in Jonesboro, Ark. The Big Red finished the weekend with a 6-6 record, five wins being over NTCA ranked opponents.
The last time the Cornhuskers hosted the Big Red Invitational was the 2022-23 season where NU finished first. The programs travelling to compete alongside the Huskers at home include three teams inside the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Top 25: No. 4 Arkansas State, No. 7 Wichita State, No. 13 McKendree and No. 25 Valparaiso. Central Missouri, Elmhurst and Quincy round out the playing field.
Attendance will be free for spectators including the practice session for teams on Thursday, and giveaways will be held for spectators on all competition days with a bowling ball giveaway on Sunday.
The first ball will be thrown by Herbie on Friday with competition beginning at 9:00 a.m. (CT) with five sets of five-game baker matches. The tournament continues with four traditional matches Saturday morning, beginning at 10:10 a.m. (CT). The combined results from Friday and Saturday’s nine matches will determine seeding for Sunday’s bracket-play championship tournament. Each team will play two best-of-seven baker matches, beginning at 8:55 a.m. (CT).
The tournament winner will be based on the per-game average for all three days of competition. Individual awards will be awarded at approximately 12:30 p.m. (CT) on Sunday and will go to the top five individual averages for players that compete in all four traditional matches. Additionally, the MVP award will be given to the top performing individual.
