Nebraska track and field secured 14 events wins at the Nebraska Tune-Up on Friday afternoon in Lincoln.
In the women’s shot put, Mine De Klerk set the South African Indoor record with a mark of 17.87m (58-7 ½) to win the event. Kalynn Meyer set a PR of her own and new fifth-best mark in school history of 17.63m (57-10 ¼), finishing second and Amelia Flynt finished third (16.19m, 53-1 ½). On the men’s side Kael Miedema (17.77m, 58-3 ¾) and Brett Schwartz (15.32m, 50-3 ¼) finished first and second, respectively.
In the women’s pole vault, Jacelyn Neighbors set a new personal-best mark and second-best mark in school history 4.28m (14-0 ½) to win the event title. Arina Razina also cleared 4.28m (14-0 ½), earning a second-place finish and Kylie Clark finished third (4.13m, 13-6). Zach Zohner won the men’s pole vault title, clearing a season’s best 5.18m (17-0).
Henry Zimmerman threw a season’s best 22.84m (74-11 ¼) to win the men’s weight throw title. Maxwell Otterdahl threw a season’s best of his own (20.79m, 68-2 ½), claiming second and Brett Schwartz hit a personal-best mark 20.63m (67-8 ½), finishing third.
In the women’s weight throw, Cammy Garabian won the event title with a mark of 19.58m (64-3). Hillevi Carlson (19.35m, 63-6) and Ariel Ammentorp (18.81m, 61-8 ½) finished second and third, respectively. In the women’s long, Lishanna Ilves (6.19m, 20-3 ¾) and Darby Thomas (6.02m, 19-9) earned the top two spots.
In the men’s high jump, Tyus Wilson earned his fourth event title of the season, clearing 2.21m (7-3). Reid Nelson took second with a mark of 2.14m (7-0 ¼) and Gerrit Twitero jumped a new personal-best 2.10m (6-10 ¾) finishing third. On the women’s side, Brooklyn Miller set a new personal-best with a mark of 1.78m (5-10) to win the event title. Ela Velepec also cleared 1.78m (5-10) to finish second.
William McDavid ran a personal-best 1:19.96 in the men’s 600m earning his first event title of the season. Sam Easley finished second, running 1:19.01. In the 800m, Kaleb Sharp grabbed the title with a time of 1:51.59.
In the 60m hurdles, Favour Wanjoku ran a personal-best 8.56 to earn the event title and Grace Parsons came in second, running 8.91. On the men’s side, Luke Noland ran a personal-best 8.10 for the second-place finish, and Brayden Bergkamp finished third (8.32).
In the men’s 3000m, Grant Wasserman ran a PR, 8:14.31 to win the event title. On the women’s side, Taya Skelton added to the event title tally, running a personal-best 9.45.04 and Hannah Godwin grabbed a third-place finish (10:19.87). In the women’s mile, Alea Hardie finished in second place, running 5:00.24, and James Ledbetter placed third in the men’s 400m (49.58).
Up next, the Huskers are set to take on the Big Ten Indoor Championships, on Feb. 28 and March 1 in Indianapolis, Ind.
