The Nebraska beach volleyball team began its season at the Stetson Spring Fling in DeLand, Fla., on Friday.
The Huskers played two matches on Cooper Beach. Nebraska fell to Stephen F. Austin 3-2 in the season opener before dropping a 5-0 match to No. 20 Stetson in the afternoon.
Against the Ladyjacks, Maisie Boesiger and Taylor Landfair got the Huskers on the board with a 21-14, 21-14 win in the No. 5 spot. Andi Jackson and Harper Murray put the Huskers in the lead briefly, 2-1, with a 21-19, 21-18 win at the No. 3 spot. But the Ladyjacks closed out the match with two narrow three-set victories.
Against the 20th-ranked Hatters, Bergen Reilly and Teraya Sigler were the only Husker pair to go the distance, forcing their No. 2 match to the wire before falling 21-19, 15-21, 15-17.
The Huskers are back in action on Cooper Beach on Saturday with matches against Mercer at 8 a.m. (CT) and Eckerd at 10 a.m. (CT).
